Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin, Inc. (CAC) is looking for volunteers to assist with the SNAP program at the Dane County Farmers’ Market.
Volunteers help to staff the booth by performing benefit withdrawals and interacting with customers, as well as assisting the coordinator with SNAP collections from market vendors. Volunteers are needed every Saturday from 7:00am-1:00pm when SNAP services are available during the outdoor market.
Booth shifts are from 7:00am-9:00am, 9:00am-11:00am and 11:00am-1:00pm. It is anticipated that with the Double Dollars incentive program arriving to the market in July that two people will be needed to staff the booth, especially from 9:00am-1:00pm. This is a seated, stationary position that generally does not require lifting or much physical exertion. It’s also the best people watching spot at the market!
Collections volunteers work from 10:15am-1:00pm and two volunteers are needed for each shift. This is a very active position as it involves walking to visit every stand at the market, in all types of weather. This is a great way to get a behind the scenes look at the market and interact closely with the diverse group of vendors at the market.
Attention to detail and ability to work quickly in a somewhat fast paced environment is needed for both positions. Volunteers work with a wide variety of individuals and the ability to communicate well is a necessity.
Training takes place at the market and one training shift for the booth and/or collections is required. Volunteers can choose to train for both roles, or they may choose to only train for one role. Training for the booth is from 7:00am-9:00am and collections training is from 10:15am-1:00pm. There are training dates currently open on June 18th, June 25th and July 2nd. Other dates will be available throughout the summer as well.
